Newborn Baby Sleep Habits

Based on my experience as a proud mother of two,  during the first few weeks, your baby may sleep between feeds, but as he gets older, his sleep time diminishes. At first he is awake more in the afternoon. Then he sleeps less during other times of the day. By the time he is a year old, he will probably take only two naps a day at most - one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Most newborns are not disturbed by lights or by noise and activity around them, but the baby should if possible, have a room by himself. Many mothers encourage daytime sleeps, in the midst of normal activity, quiet sleeps being reserved for night. When space is limited, he can still be somewhat separated  from the rest of the room by a room divider or a screen. The new baby is most comfortable in a small cot. When he is older he needs a high sided  cot.
